FAQ’s

Waxing Services

Many areas of the body may be waxed: eyebrows, forehead, lip area, cheeks, chin, back, upper/lower leg, underarms, forearms, bikini line — even hair on the knuckles of fingers and toes. To increase your comfort and satisfaction with yourArt-Wax service, we have prepared this short guide. We hope you find the following information helpful, whether this is your first waxing service, or you receive them regularly.

What will happen during my appointment?
If this is your first waxing service, or first experience having a particular area of your body waxed, please let your esthetician know so she can guide you through the process. Once in the treatment room, you will need to expose only the area of your body that is going to be waxed. Feel free to ask your esthetician how much, if any, of your clothing should be removed. For a bikini wax, you will be provided with disposable underwear to wear during the service; your esthetician will also discuss where you would like your bikini line to fall.

Before the waxing begins, your esthetician will apply a pre-treatment to cleanse and sanitize the skin. Be sure to inform your esthetician if you have any skin condition, allergies or are taking prescription medications such as Retin-A, Accutane, antibiotics or any other medication which may cause excessive skin irritation.

What kind of wax will be used on my skin?
We use two types of wax: hard and liquid. Hard wax, heated until it reaches the consistency of molasses, is applied to smaller, more sensitive areas of the body (i.e., face, bikini area), and contains ingredients such as lavender and Aloe Vera. Hard wax is uniquely suited for removing hair from sensitive areas — as it cools, it “shrink wraps” the unwanted hair for easy removal and maximum comfort. Liquid wax, heated until it reaches the consistency of warm honey, is applied to larger areas (i.e., legs, back, forearms). After application, liquid wax is removed with muslin strips.

How should I prepare for a hair removal treatment?
To assure ease in removal, the unwanted hair should be at least 1/4″ long. For body waxing, plan to exfoliate, or scrub, the area to be waxed on the day before your treatment, to slough off dead skin cells and help prevent ingrown hairs. For an underarm wax, please wash off deodorant prior to your service. Women should avoid waxing during the three days prior to and the first three days of their periods; the skin is most sensitive during this time. Please don’t tan right before or after your Treatment!

Does waxing hurt?
Because the unwanted hair is removed from the root, it may hurt a bit. If you are especially sensitive to pain, you may want to take an anti-inflammatory (such as ibuprofen) before your appointment. Topical numbing cream can be used upon request before your session.

Why should I choose waxing over other temporary hair-removal methods?
Unlike shaving, waxing removes the entire hair, which, with consistent waxing, may then take up to four weeks to grow back. Hair that has been shaved may grow back feeling coarser and looking darker — but the hair that grows back after waxing often feels softer than it did before.

How should I take care of my skin after the treatment?
For body areas, exfoliate the day after your hair removal treatment, and twice weekly thereafter, to help prevent ingrown hairs. Uses of body scrubs are very effective. Consult your Esthetician about special care products or treatments for ingrown hair.
